February 2011

Hello! Me Again!
As many of you might have noticed February had a little snow. Well I have to be honest, the snow has had a bit of an effect on our progress. Concrete trucks have been delayed due to bad road conditions and the snow/frost layers in the leach field have delayed its completion. I am happy to say that this month saw the completion of the leach field. I am sure East Boothbay is happy to have their roads free of the Crooker dump truck convoy's that had been running back and forth from the site and their sand lot in Whitefield. When we got a weather break Crooker ran down to the leach field and scrubbed off all the frost (as seen below) and put down the crushed stone and diffusion chambers, and finished with a final layer of sand. Septic Leach field is now complete! Just in time for yet another round of snow.

Now that we are done with all the dirty work, lets get back to the fun stuff.
This month we almost saw the completion of the foundation walls. Due to some of these pesky snow flurries that we had, a few concrete deliveries had been delayed. So to summarize the following images, you will see most walls FREPed, steel cross beams installed, water proofing and backfilling of the walls up to the footing level for first floor overhangs.
A big step for the BCBB building is the start of the steel erection. Steel showed up this month, and it didn't take long for the iron workers to put most of it in place to give us a better view of how big the building is going to look.

Here you can see the forms for the loading dock bay and most importantly the window for my future office, though it won't have such a nice view as the labs and upper offices, its still nice to know that the designers like me enough to give me a window and not just a concrete wall to look at.

Well that pretty much sums up what has been going on the site for February. By the end of March I suspect all the concrete will be finished, steel frame will be complete, and I hear the future rumbles of more blasting. Sorry neighbors, but I am pretty sure the beginning of March will not be as quiet as February, blasting for the next phase will have started.

I hope you are enjoying the images.
