January 2011

January seemed to scream by. Though the crew worked through it all, a few snow storms seemed to slow things down a bit. The limiting factor was the road conditions and difficulties getting materials and supplies to the site, otherwise these guys would have gone full speed through the worst of it.

As you will see through the month of January the Consigli crew is going through the routine of what they call FRP (Form/Rebar/Pour) or "Frepping" the concrete walls, section by section. Makes it look easy, but its not. Its interesting to see the amount of detail they are putting into it.

On super cold days the walls get wrapped so warm air can be blown around the concrete as it cures

Footings are being poured as the walls continue to extend towards the river

The first signs of waterproofing are now being seen. This bituthene material will ensure that our basements stay dry during the wettest of times.

Unlike the building, the septic leach field is a little more susceptible to the elements. With the large amount of fill material going into the field, Cooker can only place a small layer before they have to pack it down. This way they can get a consistent compaction through the entire field. The heavy snow days we have experienced in January, had delayed some filling. The snow which piles on top needs to be removed, otherwise it interferes with the compaction and the fill will become stratified, adversely affects the flow rate of water passing through it.

The infiltration systems are on site waiting for a good break in the weather to allow them to be set in place

January saw the final finishing of our electrical power. This month they strung lines along the poles and dropped them underground. A new transformer was put into place and the power was connected. We are now officially on the grid. Now all I need is a place to plug in this computer.

I expect by the next time I post, they will have the foundation walls completely frepped, waterproofed, and backfilled.
